INDEPENDENCE – Jennie Pogreba, 88, of Independence, died Monday, March 14, 2011 at Tri-County Memorial Hospital, Whitehall. Jennie was born on February 25th, 1923 in Buffalo County to Robert and Olga (Obigalo) Konsela. On October 18th, 1939, Jennie married Robert Pogreba in Waumaudee, WI. Jennie and Robert farmed together for 48 years in the Independence area until retirement where she was a devoted wife and mother who took great pride in raising a large family. Jennie was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed dancing at weddings and anniversaries as well as tending to her flower beds. Jennie was involved with the rosary society, women's organization and the fall festival at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Jennie is survived by five daughters, Mary Ann (Roger) Kubis of Buffalo City, Barb (John) Pasala of Bloomingdale, Ill., Dorothy (Ron) Edmundson of Deland, Fla., Ann (Dennis) Matchey of Alma, Rita (Steve) McDonald of Hudson, and five sons, Gene (Pat) of Lombard, Ill., Jim (Julie) of New Rockford, N.D., Stephen (Jeanette) of Independence, Dan (Gina) of Ettrick and Alan (Shawn) of Independence. Jennie is also survived by 32 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren, one brother (August) of Manitowoc and many nieces, nephews and friends. Robert preceded Jennie in death in September of 1987. In addition to Robert, Jennie was preceded in death by two sons, Richard and Michael, a granddaughter, Kari Edmundson, four sisters and four brothers. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Rev. Woodrow H. Pace officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday and 8-10:30 a.m. Saturday at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, where there will be a prayer service followed by a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
