Edmund E. Filla

Edmund E. Filla, 84, of Arcadia, died Monday, August 8, 2011, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Arcadia. Edmund was born November 17, 1926 in Independence to Peter and Mary (Motszko) Filla. He married Doris M. Pronschinske May 18, 1954 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waumandee. The couple farmed in Traverse Valley in rural Independence until retirement. He also owned and operated Filla’s Bar in Independence. Edmund was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, served as the president of the parish council and was the liaison with the school. He was also a member of Sura-Wiersgalla Legion Post 186 of Independence. Survivors include his wife, Doris M. Filla of Arcadia; three children, Diane (Michael) Walske of Arcadia, David (Sandy) Filla of Independence and Sharon (Daniel) Kotlarz of Arcadia; ten grandchildren, Greg Walske, Beth (Jake) Wadewitz, Brian (Amber) Walske, Daniel, Michelle, Sara and Nicole Filla, Brent, Brad and Tracy Kotlarz; four great-grandchildren, Brayden Reedy, Brianna and Brooklyn Walske and Kanden Wadewitz; 45 nieces and nephews and 11 Godchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Caroline Dworschak and two brothers, Raymond and Marcel Filla. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Rev. Woodrow H. Pace officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Monday and 8-10 a.m. Tuesday at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, where there will be a prayer service followed by a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
