INDEPENDENCE – Albin G. Gierok, 76, of Independence, died Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. Albin was born February 19, 1935 on the home farm in Burnside Township, Trempealeau County, to George and Gunda (Thoma) Gierok. He married Agnes E. Von Haden on August 20, 1960 in Eau Claire. Albin was a lifelong dairy farmer in Burnside Township. He enjoyed old time music, especially Polish music. He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Agnes of Independence; eight children, Marge (Darryl) Jerdee of Corcoran, Minn., Allen and Mark Gierok of Holmen, Kenneth Gierok of Independence, James (Angela) Gierok of Pleasantville, George (Mary) Gierok, Jeffery (Sarah) Gierok, and Robert (Amanda) Gierok all of Independence; two sisters, Patricia Konter of Milwaukee and Bernice (Edmund) Pyka of Independence and 12 grandchildren. Albin was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ronald Gierok; a sister, Cecelia M. Killian; and a grandson, Samuel James Gierok. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 17, 2011 at the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Very Rev. Woodrow H. Pace officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 8-10 a.m. Monday at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, where there will be a prayer service followed by a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
