Doris Nelson

Doris Nelson, 84, of Colfax, died Friday, December 23, 2011 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire. Doris was born September 13, 1927 in Mondovi, Wis., to Clarence and Lulie (Nyre) Johnson. She married LeRoy H. Nelson April 22, 1950 at Osseo Lutheran Church. Doris enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting and going to thrift sales. She loved to make lefse for family gatherings. She was a former member of Evanger Lutheran Church. Survivors include her husband LeRoy of Colfax, four daughters, Susan (Ronald) Hanson of Lacey, Wash., Nancy (Wayne) Hanson of Strum, Sandra (Mathias) Lewon of Prairie Farm, and Sally (Robert) Tschumperlin of Durand; three sisters, Lorraine DeBel of Colfax, Evelyn (James) Cleveland of Torrance, Calif., and Carrine Tomter of Oswego, Ill.; 12 grandchildren, Julie, Jennifer, Jacob (Roberta), Jeremy (Jacklyn), Chad (Lisa) and Shawn (Holly) Hanson, Kari (Adam) Julson, Monica, Bryce and Arleen Lewon, Amy and Kyle Tschumperlin; 9 great-grandchildren, Terrence, Joseph, Jeremiah, Ty, Drew, Adeline, Greta, Kayden and Ashlyn Hanson; and a sister-in-law, Sue Johnson of Aurora, Ill. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Burton and Herbert Johnson. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2011, at Evanger Lutheran Church, rural Independence, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
