Lloyd Olson

INDEPENDENCE –Lloyd Odell Olson, 77, of Elk Creek, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 27, 2012 at Mayo Clinic Health Care System in Eau Claire. Lloyd was born June 11, 1934 to Clarence "Elmer" and Myrtle (Back) Olson on the family farm in Trempealeau County. He attended the Veum school and graduated from Independence High School where he played football and ran track. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Lloyd worked with his father on the farm until he was drafted on April 2, 1956. He served his country and was honorably discharged from the Army in February 1958. Lloyd married Elizabeth "Becky" Walter on May 17, 1958 in Eau Claire, Wis. He and Becky then bought a dairy farm in rural Independence. Lloyd farmed the steep hills until his sons took over in 1987. Lloyd then worked as a maintenance technician at Ashley Furniture until he retired. Lloyd and Becky moved to Elk Creek in 1987 where he was the "fire chief" of Elk Creek. Lloyd was a man who could find the humor in life and shared it with everyone. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Lloyd is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Becky" of Elk Creek; three children, Julie Pronschinske of Independence, Pamela (Wayne) Haines of Arcadia, Scot Olson of Gilmanton; eight grandchildren, Jessica (Jason) Schue of Independence, Jennifer (Jason) Halama of Whitehall, Cole (Erin) Olson of Mondovi, Justin (special friend Daisy Harris) Olson of Mondovi, Chad and Emily Olson of Gilmanton, Shawn and Natasha Haines of Arcadia; five great-grandchildren, Avery Halama, Joelle Schue, Avery Falkner, Lauraynn Olson and Calvin Olson; two sisters, Pat (John) Olesczuk of Rice Lake and Linda (Bob) Slaby of Arcadia; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gary; son-in-law Joe Pronschinske and a sister, Elaine (Sig) Olson. Memorial Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, with Rev. Paul Tobiason officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
