Gertrude "Gertie" Sura

INDEPENDENCE – Gertrude "Gertie" Sura, 67, of Independence, died unexpectedly Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at Tri-County Memorial Nursing Home, Whitehall. Gertie was born January 11, 1945 in Trempealeau County, Wis., to John and Tillie (Thoma) Sluga. She married Ernest Sura November 16, 1968 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, Wis. The couple farmed in Chimney Rock Township. She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Gertie is survived by her husband, Ernest Sura of Independence; a son, Tony Sura of Independence; a daughter, Beverly Sura of Eau Claire; two sisters, Marlette (La Vern) Sobotta of Arcadia and Darlene (Ronald) Myers of Round Lake Beach, Ill.; and a grandson, Shawn Sura of Chippewa Falls, Wis. She was preceded in death by her parents. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Very Rev. Woodrow H. Pace officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a rosary, at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
