Melvin Wirth, 64, of Independence, Wis., formerly of Austin, Minn., died Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn.
He was born June 5, 1947 in East St. Louis, Ill. to Fred and Florence Wirth. Melvin served in the U. S. Army in Viet Nam. He was employed at Hormel in Austin, Minn. for 41 years until retirement.
Survivors include his sister, Jeanette (Paul) Tobiason of Independence; brother-in-law, Michael Grilc of Roscoe, Ill; nieces, grand-nieces and nephews.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Betty Grilc.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2012, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Strum, Wisconsin. Burial, with military rites, will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene, Iowa on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.
