James P. Weist

James P. Weist, 63, of Miami, Florida, formerly of La Crosse, died Monday, June 4, 2012 at his residence. He was born May 15, 1949 in Evanston, Ill. to Walter and Verna (Calkins) Weist. Jim graduated from Central High School in La Crosse. He attended the UW-Madison before serving in the U. S. Army as a translator/interpreter in Viet Nam. Jim was a master electrician and a photography and science buff. He was a "big time" Wisconsin Badger fan. Survivors include his brother, Alan Weist of Blair; two sisters, Becky (Dennis) Maule of Independence and Penny (Keith) Mathson of Blair; nieces and nephews, Kim (Paul) Cassem of Holmen, Kara (Travis) Nehring of Greenfield, Wis., Sara Mathson of Blair, Greg Maule of Rochester and Kurt (Liza) Mathson of Greenfield; great-nieces and nephews, Kelsey and Laura Nehring, Alex Cassem and Logan Mathson. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012, at Rest Haven Cemetery in Blair. Military rites will be conducted by Knudtson-Mattison American Legion Post 231.
