Alvina M. Goard, 90, of Arcadia, formerly of Independence, died Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Tri-County Memorial Hospital, Whitehall. She was born February 21, 1922 in Chimney Rock Township, Trempealeau County, to Ole and Julia (Gruntzel) Olson. She married Hugh D. Goard on November 7, 1945 in Eleva. He died July 30, 2002. The couple lived in Illinois for five years where she was a housemaid for two families. Upon returning to Wisconsin, the couple farmed in Burnside Township and Alvina did house cleaning in the area. Alvina was a dedicated and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She made a lasting impression on everyone she met. Her cooking and baking was "out of this world". She was known for her lemon meringue pies. Survivors include seven daughters, Janet (Jerry) Kube of Arcadia, MaryAnn Hoffend of Chandler, Ariz., Nancy (Dennis) Dubiel of Independence, Brenda (David) Loga of Whitehall, Sally (Raymond) Knudtson of Green Bay, Linda (David) Byom of Melrose and Pamela (Keith) Lien of Taylor; 24 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Alvina was preceded in death by her husband; four brothers, John, Odell, Lawrence and Orville Olson and four sisters, Ida Zilla, Evelyn Thompson, Irene Cavanaugh and Viola Dunham. Funeral services will be held at 2 :00 p.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, with Rev. Terry Lorenz officiating. Burial will be in Chimney Rock Lutheran Cemetery, rural Strum. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of services Tuesday at the funeral home.
