Barbara J. Matchey

Barbara J. Matchey, 62, of rural Independence, died Saturday, September 7, 2013 at her home. Barbara was born February 27, 1951, in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina to Ladislaus M. and Audrey A. (Zarling) Matchey. Barbara was a GOAL instructor at Western Technical College, Independence. Some of her past employment included the Eau Claire Police Department, the Eau Claire Road Crew/ Maintenance Department, organist and musical liturgist and early education teacher. Her joys in life were her family, music, teaching all ages, nature, and her Church. She is survived by her daughter, Vanessa A. Matchey; three grandchildren, Adaelyn, Loraina and Josh Kalk; her mother, Audrey Matchey; eleven siblings, Paul Matchey, Tom (Cindy) Matchey, Mary Edwards, Mark (Margie) Matchey, Theresa (Dan) Pierzina, Sam (Terri) Matchey, Ruth (Jeff) Kersten, Joe (Stef) Matchey, Greg Matchey, Brian (Connie) Matchey and Mike (Kelly) Matchey and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and a nephew, Bobby Matchey. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Very Rev. Woodrow H. Pace officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a rosary, at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
