James K. Olson

James K. Olson, 73, of Independence, died Friday, January 24, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his loved ones following a courageous battle with cancer. Jim was born December 10, 1940 in Hale Township, Trempealeau County, to Randolph and Delores Olson. He married Leone Matchey on October 4, 1986 at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Independence. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, sporting events and family gatherings. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife, Leone; four step-children, Sandy (Brad) Joern of West Lafayette, Ind., Susan (Neil) Pronschinske, Brenda (Francis) Sonsalla and Steven (Shannon) Matchey all of Arcadia; nine step-grandchildren, Carl and Erin Joern, Kyle, Eric, Shawna and Lee Pronschinske, Andrew and Michael Sonsalla and Shylin Matchey. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; step-daughter, Stacey Matchey and a step-granddaughter, Alexandra Joern. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 1, 2014 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Whitehall, with Rev. Dennis Voss officiating. Burial will follow in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Independence. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to services at the church. A luncheon will be served at SS.
