Bernice Filla

Bernice Filla, 86, of Independence, died on Tuesday, April 15,2014, at Gundersen Tri-County Care Center in Whitehall, WI. Bernice was born February 20, 1928 in rural Independence to Valentine and Clara (Roskos) Marsolek. She married Theodore “Ted” Filla on May 12, 1947 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence.   He died November 9, 2013. The couple farmed in Lewis Valley, rural Arcadia, until moving to Independence. Bernice was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and Rosary Society. Survivors include her daughter, Ruth (Dick) Rasmussen of Bloomington, Minn.; son, Roger Filla of Arcadia; sister, Irene Kulig of Whitehall; step-granddaughter, Sharon (John Sprague) Rasmussen-Sprague and two step-great-grandchildren, Jovana and Samahra Sprague. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Ted; son, Rodney Filla; brother, Ralph Marsolek; sister-in-law, Pat Marsolek and brother-in-law, Art Kulig. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 21, 2014 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a rosary, at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
