Jerome "Pusher" Prokop

Jerome "Pusher" Prokop, 90, of Independence, died Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Pine View Care Center, Black River Falls. He was born March 26, 1924 in Burnside Township, Trempealeau County, to Thomas and Kathryn (Slabik) Prokop. He married Eleanor Reck on February 23, 1949 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Arcadia, She died December 25, 2007. The couple farmed in Traverse Valley, rural Independence, until retirement and then moved to Independence. Jerry was instrumental in organizing the fall festival at SS. Peter & Paul Parish and served as chairman for over 50 years. He was a life member of Knights of Columbus Santa Maria Counsel 2787. Jerry was an avid poker player and enjoyed sporting pools of all types. Survivors include nieces and nephews of the Prokop and Reck families. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife; two brothers, Clarence and Aloizy Prokop and two sisters, Romelle Crawford and Angeline Waldera. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Very Rev. Woodrow H. Pace officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a rosary, at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
