Sharon K. Suchla

Sharon K. Suchla, 62, of Winona, formerly of Independence, died unexpectedly Thursday, August 28, 2014 at her home. Sharon was born on September 20, 1951 in Arcadia, WI to Ralph and Dorothy (Klimek) Suchla.  She attended and graduated from Independence Public Schools. After graduation from Stout State University in Menomonie, WI, Sharon began teaching in 1973 in Wisconsin Rapids and then moved to Winona in 1974 where she began her 37 year career with ISD #861.  She began as a home economics teacher, teaching Winona youngsters the fine art of making sticky breakfast rolls and egg Mc Suchla’s.  At the urging of then superintendent, Dr. Lee Brittenham, Sharon went on to obtain her Master’s degree at Winona State University and became an administrator with the school district, first as Dean of Students and later as Principal of the Winona Middle School.  She retired in 2011 and was happily pursuing her hobbies of traveling with friends, selling ‘anything she could make a buck on’ on Ebay, volunteering at the Salvation Army and chasing the elusive Royal Flush at local casinos. She is survived by and will be sorely missed by her brother Roger of Arcadia, sister Sandra of Winona, sister-in-law Virg of Arcadia and niece Stacy (fiancé Price Kopp) Suchla of Onalaska.  She is further survived by many relatives and friends. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Robert (Bob) Suchla. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 6, 2014 at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Independence. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. at the church.A dinner will be served in the church basement following services.The family respectfully suggests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to causes dear to Sharon’s heart: The Foundation for Winona Area Public Schools, SS Peter and Paul Church Restoration Fund or a local humane society of the donor’s choice.  Directions to SS.
