Marie J. Berg

Marie J. Berg, 72, of Independence, died Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at her home. Marie was born March 1, 1943 in Arcadia Township, Trempealeau County, to Clemence and Maggie (Wiersgalla) Ressel. She married Gary L. Berg May 21, 1966 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence. He died August 9, 2007. Marie worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Trempealeau County Healthcare Center for many years until retirement. She enjoyed cooking, baking and canning. She was known for her coffee cakes. She also enjoyed embroidery, reading and visiting friends and family. She was an animal lover and had a special friend, Bella. She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, its women's organization, rosary society and funeral luncheon committee. Survivors include four children, Carol (Steve) Dejno of West Salem, Wis., Barbara (Richard) Starnes of Cullowhee, N. C., John Berg (Lisa Correa) of Whitehall and Eric Berg (Rebecca Pedersen) of Independence; grandchildren; brother, Stanley Ressel of Independence; sister, Praxeda "Pat" Pogreba of Independence; brother-in-law, David (Marlet) Berg of Mondovi. She was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, Harold Ressel and a sister, Ann Johnson. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, with Very Rev. Woodrow H. Pace officiating. Burial will be in the SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a rosary, at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Saturday.
