October 2, 1951 — August 8, 2015

Judy Schlesser, 63, of rural Independence, died Saturday, August 8, 2015 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire. She was born October 2, 1951 in Wausau, Wis., to Walter and Laura (Hornung) Nest. Judy married Jake Schlesser at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, Marathon, Wis. on June 30, 1973. Judy was blessed with over 60 years of enjoying life to the fullest. She started by competing with her older twin brother, enjoyed cheerleading in high school, then reveled in the UW Eau Claire “experience”. After meeting Jake on the farm and getting married, they shared the birth of three sons, had fun bowling at Club Midway, provided meals to farm hands, and educated the ever-changing flow of people on the farm. Judy graduated from UW Eau Claire with a bachelor’s degree in Finance. She worked on the family farm, managing the accounting, maintaining the dairy herd, and keeping animal records. Judy enjoyed giving tours of the farm and animals, shopping, and spending time visiting with friends and neighbors. Judy was happiest spreading fun and laughter with all those around her. Survivors include her husband, Jake Schlesser of Independence; three sons, Walter (Marie Zoromski) Schlesser of Dubuque Iowa, Carl Schlesser of St Louis Park Minn. and Ed Schlesser of Independence; twin brother, Gary Nest of Atlanta Ga.; sister, Kai (Bill) Oelke of Marathon City, Wis. and brother, John (Dodi) Nest of Orlando, Fla.; sister-in-law, Joan (Dale) Sosalla and brother-in-law Mark Schlesser both of Independence. She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Laura (Hornung) Nest and parents in law Edward and Alvina (Halama) Schlesser. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic School Gymnasium. Burial will be in the SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a rosary, at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to services at the school on Wednesday.
