Monica Ann Mish

Monica Mish, 97, of Independence, died Sunday, November 29, 2015 at Gundersen Tri-County Care Center, Whitehall. Monica was born August 6, 1918 in Trempealeau County, to Michael G. and Anna (Woychik) Kampa. She married Lawrence Mish on May 5, 1936. He died March 12, 1953. Monica enjoyed polka music, playing cards, bingo, baking, cooking and canning. She cooked for many weddings. She looked forward to her children and grandchildren visiting and always had food on the table. She was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Survivors include eight children, Gene (Ruby) Mish of Paw Paw, Ill., Bernard (Angie) Mish of Hampshire, Ill., Terri (Bob) Altergott of St. Charles, Ill., Louie (Joy) Mish of Wasco, Ill., Romelle Adank of Strum, Adrian Mish of Independence, Barb Haug of Whitehall and Sandy (Bryan) Slaby of Independence; two daughters-in-law, Janet Mish of Carol Stream, Ill. and Pauline Mish of Aurora, Ill.; 32 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren. Monica was preceded in death by her husband; three sons, John, Ernie and David Mish; a daughter, Delores Austin; four brothers, infants Symon and John Kampa, Lawrence (Rose) Kampa and Adolph (Angeline) Kampa Sr.; three sisters, infant Martina Kampa, Rose (Roman) Sura and Matilda (Darwin) Anderson; two sons-in-law, Gaylord Adank and Howard Austin; two daughters-in-law, Shirley Mish and Phyllis Mish; a granddaughter, Donna Mae Mish; great-grandson, Creed Nerison. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Very Rev. Woodrow H. Pace officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a rosary, at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
