Doris M. Sylla

Doris M. Sylla, 78, of rural Independence, died Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Gundersen Tri-County Hospital and Clinic, Whitehall. Doris was born June 27, 1937 in Whitehall to Ben and Elizabeth (Berg) Ryan. She married Gerald Sylla at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. He died January 14, 1972. Doris worked for several years at Gopher Glove in Independence and then at Ashley Furniture until retirement. She enjoyed watching Badger and Bucks basketball. Survivors include five children, James "Earl" of Independence, Steven (Roberta) of River Falls, Cindy (Gene Huson) Herried of Whitehall, Scott (Margo) and Charlie both of Elk Creek; two sisters, Fern Sylla of Independence and twin sister, Dorothy Fetting of La Crosse; five grandchildren, Kelly, Ryan, Morgan, Wesley and Dillon; a great-granddaughter, Kenzleigh. Doris was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Edward and Gerald Jr.; brother-in-law, George Sylla. Services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, January 11, 2016 at Edison Funeral Home, Independence. Burial will be in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Independence, at a later date.
