Kenneth C. Halama

Kenneth C. Halama, 56, of rural Independence, died peacefully on Sunday, October 16, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family. Ken was born November 10, 1959, in Whitehall, to Edmund and Helen (Rombalski) Halama. On April 1, 1989, he married Kimberly Jensen at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Arcadia. Ken was a loving father to their three children Betsy, Katie and John. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Ken graduated from Independence High School. After graduation he served in the U. S. Air Force at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona. He enjoyed being an Avionics Specialist working on F-15s. Years later, Ken still kept in touch with his Air Force and high school buddies. After serving in the military, Ken moved back to Independence where he farmed for 20 years. In 2003, Ken became an insurance adjuster and worked for Crawford & Co. in Eau Claire. Later he started his own insurance adjusting company, Midwest Adjusting, Inc., with his wife Kim. Ken loved the outdoors and working with his hands. He often spent his free time working on projects on the farm. He especially enjoyed anything related to his passions, deer and turkey hunting. He loved spending time with family and especially enjoyed watching his son’s sporting events. Another favorite pastime was riding his motorcycle and enjoying the countryside views. He had a special interest in aviation and loved attending air shows, visiting museums and traveling with his family. Family and friends will remember Ken for his keen sense of humor and how he made friends everywhere he went. Survivors include his wife Kim; daughters, Betsy and Katie; son, John all of Independence; brothers, Gerald and James (Cassie) Halama of Independence; sisters, Janet (LaVerne) Michalak of Independence, Mary (Larry Gregory) Gulden of Eau Claire and Joan Halama of Stoughton; father and mother in-law, Dennis and Donna Jensen of Arcadia; and brother-in-law, Jeff (Toni) Jensen of La Crosse, and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and stillborn brother, John. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence. Military rites will be conducted by Sura-Wiersgalla American Legion Post 186, with a private burial at a later date. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a rosary, at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Saturday.
