IRENE RUTH LYGA
INDEPENDENCE – Irene Ruth Lyga, 86, of Independence, died Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at Tri-County Memorial Nursing Home in Whitehall.
Irene was born April 7, 1923 in Burnside Township, Trempealeau County, to Mike and Frances (Pieterick) Maciosek. She married Roy R. Lyga on April 29, 1942 at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Independence. He died October 7, 2004. The couple farmed in Burnside Township, Trempealeau County.
Irene had a strong faith, love and devotion to the Catholic Church. She was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, its Women’s Organization, Rosary Society, funeral luncheon committee and church choir. Irene loved her family, was a hard worker and enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. She was well known for her homemade bread and rug making.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley (Claire) Hanson of Whitehall; daughter-in-law, Ann Lyga of La Crosse; two brothers, Everett Maciosek of St. Cloud, Minn., and Brother Andrew Marsolek of Tampa, Fla.; ten grandchildren, Shannon (Tracey) Leer, Cassie (Jeff) Hammond, Amber Leer, Carl (Star) Hanson, Carmen (Gary) Markgren, Al (Andrea) Hanson, Sue (Michael) Richards, Pat (Amy) Lyga, Wanda (Tom) Breitsprecker, Steve (Rachel) Lyga; 18 great-grandchildren.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Raymond and her parents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Rev. David C. Kunz officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday with a rosary recited at 1:15 p.m
