Maria E. Kuka, 85, of Independence, died Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Grand View Care Center, Blair. She was born November 19, 1924 in Austria to Franz and Barbara Schwarzmeier. Maria married Joseph E. Kuka in Salzburg, Austria. He died December 4, 2005. Maria was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, its Women’s Organization and Rosary Society. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include a daughter, Deborah M. Schroeder of Milwaukee, Wis.; a son, John (Sandra) Kuka of Sheboygan, Wis.; four grandchildren, Tom (Colleen) and Kevin Schroeder and Brian and Erin Kuka and one great-grandson, Noah Schroeder. She is further survived by extended family in Salzburg, Austria. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Msgr. Edmund Klimek and Rev. David C. Kunz officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Maria’s family would like to extend a special thanks to Msgr. Klimek for always being there. They would also like to thank Jane Matchey for her care and compassion. Thanks also to the staff at Grand View Care Center for their wonderful care.
