Florence M. Slaby

Florence M. Slaby, 76, of Independence, died Friday, October 22, 2010 at Tri-County Memorial Hospital, Whitehall. Florence was born March 31, 1934 on Plum Creek Ridge, Arcadia Township, to Joseph and Florence (Kowohl) Ressel. She married Gerald M. Slaby on October 9, 1951 at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Independence. Florence was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Survivors include her husband, Gerald of Independence; five children, Dori (Bob) Pulse of Eau Claire, Bryan (Sandy) Slaby of Independence, Li Ann “La La” (Don) Slaby Korpal of Arcadia, Denise (Ray) Murnane of Sparta and Gerald C. “Deetter” (Lastenia) Slaby of Summit, S.D.; a sister, Catherine (Cliff R.) Johnson of Madison, Wis.; 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Florence was preceded in death by her parents; son, Dennet Slaby; grandson, Dustin James Boberg; brother, Lewis Ressel; two sisters, Marian Andre and Helen Mish. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at St. Stanislaus Church-Holy Family Parish, Arcadia, with Rev. Michael Klos officiating. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery, rural Arcadia. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, where there will be a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. followed by a rosary.
