Leighton A. Krage, 75, of Independence, formerly of Racine, died Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at Pigeon Falls Healthcare Center after complications with Alzheimer ’s. Leighton was born in Winona, Minn. on December 5, 1934, the son of George and Dorothy (Trok) Krage. He married Patricia Duellman at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fountain City on August 29, 1959. He was employed with Camosy Construction Company in Illinois. His skills and talents of masonry can be seen on various buildings throughout Wisconsin and Illinois. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and bird watching. Leighton served in the US Army. When he first moved to Independence, he was known for his kindness with neighbors by helping them maintain their homes. During his stay at Pigeon Falls Health Care Center, he always lent a helping hand or just offered a smile. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and Rosary Society. Survivors include his wife, Patricia, of Independence; two daughters, Sally (Peter) McClellan of Burnsville, Minn. and Lisa (Kevin) Loew of Racine, Wis.; five grandchildren, John, Danny and Julia McClellan, Erin (Kevin) Suominen, and Chris (Cassie) Loew; two great-grand-daughters, Mya Suominen and Isabella Loew; a brother, Jack (Dorothy) Krage of Tucson, Ariz.; two sisters, Susan (Jim) Young of Clayton, Wis. and Ruth Davis of Clarion, Iowa. Leighton was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, George Krage. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence with Rev. Woodrow H. Pace officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. A special thanks to Mary Walek and Dora Jean Blaha for your time spent with Leighton. Sincere gratitude and thanks to the outstanding staff at Pigeon Falls Healthcare Center for caring and loving Leighton and our family. Your service to our family throughout these last days will never be forgotten.
