Donald Halama

Donald Halama, 92, of Independence, died Wednesday, September 23, 2026 at Emplify Health. Donald was born March 16, 1934, to Albert and Agnes Halama. Donald proudly served in the United States Army and remained a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 186. He married Eileen Waldera April 27, 1957 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence. The couple farmed outside Elk Creek until they moved to Independence in 1986. Donald continued working on the farm until 2025. He loved his family, playing cards, watching the Packers and Brewers, riding the side-by-side, and traveling. He was a member of Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Donald is survived by his three sons, Ricardo (Mary), Scott (Laurie) and Todd all of Independence; a daughter, Gay (Hank) Allworden of Excelsior, MN; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; brother, Gerald (Deloris) Halama; and sister-in-law, Patricia Halama. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eileen; sisters, Eleanor (William) Andre and Bernice (Bud) Smieja; and brother, Conrad Halama. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30 at 10:30 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence with Reverend George Thayilkuzhitottu officiating. Family and friends are welcome for visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
