Eldon Leon Brandenburg, also known as "Duke" or "Brandy", passed away peacefully on Friday, November 7, 2025 at Meadowbrook at Black River Falls, at the age of 99.
Eldon was born on August 6, 1926, to the late Emil and Aleda (Mielke) Brandenburg. Growing up during the Depression, he developed a frugal and practical nature that guided him throughout his life. He proudly served as a Merchant Marine at the end of World War II, contributing to his country before returning home to build a life of dedication, family, and service.
On April 7, 1951, Eldon married the love of his life, Rosalind (Egan) Brandenburg, and together they shared 68 remarkable years of marriage, filled with laughter, love, and devotion. Family was the center of Eldon's life. He found immense joy in helping his loved ones and giving generously to his family, church and the Independence community. Known for his wisdom, humor, and engaging storytelling, he was a man whose presence could light up a room and whose sharp wit often left everyone smiling-or shaking their heads in admiration.
Eldon was also a hardworking and astute businessman. He built a successful career with Thorp Finance, rising from employee to manager and earning several awards for his exceptional performance. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he had a passion for the land: Eldon grew his own garden, raised Arabian horses, and later managed cattle, demonstrating both his skill and his love for nature and hard work.
He is survived by his children, John Burke Brandenburg, Bill (Lori) Brandenburg, and Kelli (Mark) Brandenburg-Brave; grandchildren, Michael Brandenburg, Cheryl Brandenburg, Jared (Tanya) Brandenburg, Tyler Brandenburg, Steven Brandenburg, Lindsey (Ryan) Gilbertson, Ryan (Rakwon) Brandenburg, and Brett (Sydney) Brandenburg; and great-grandchildren, Matthew Brandenburg, McKenzie Brandenburg, Parker Gilbtertson, Emryn Gilbertson, Trinnity Brandenburg, Jaxon Brandenburg, Lincoln Brandenburg, McKinley Brandenburg, and Beau Brandenburg.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Rosalind (Egan) Brandenburg; son, Bruce Brandenburg; daughter-in-law, Barbara (Suchla) Brandenburg; parents, Emil and Aleda (Mielke) Brandenburg; siblings, Arlyn (Ernie) Brandenburg, Melbert Brandenburg, Arlis Brandenburg, and Audrey (Bud) Vandel Heuvel; and his parents-in-law, Margaret (Kelly) Egan and William Simon Egan.
Eldon's family extends heartfelt thanks to the St. Croix Hospice team, Meadowbrook Nursing Home, and Blair Nursing Home and Assisted Living for their compassionate care. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
