James Alfred Peterson

Pastor James Alfred Peterson, 86, of rural Mondovi, passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at Mayo Clinic Health System-Oakridge, Osseo. James Alfred Peterson was born April 13, 1934, to Alfred and Nellie (Campbell) Peterson. He graduated from Kasson High School, Kasson, Minnesota. He married Julaine Lenora Trygstad on July 17, 1955, in Byron, Minn. They had four daughters together. In his early years, Jim enjoyed building and racing stock cars. He also loved family fishing trips, hunting, trapping, wood working and the annual family wood cutting day. He worked at IBM in Rochester, Minn. for nearly 20 years. At the age of 33, he accepted God’s gift of salvation and became a born-again Christian. He felt the call to fulltime ministry, and in 1973, attended and graduated from the Independent Lutheran Seminary and Bible School in Cannon Falls, Minn. His greatest passion was teaching and preaching the Word of God. He served as Pastor of Evanger Lutheran Church of rural Independence, Wis., Lookout Lutheran Church of rural Mondovi, Wis. and Hauge Lutheran Church of Goldfield, Iowa. He continued to share the truths of the Bible as pastor and friend until his health failed at the age of 85. “For he hath made him (Jesus) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” II Corinthians 5:21 He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Julaine. Daughter Jurine (Mike) Larson of Kasson, Minnesota Jodi (Kyle) Larson of Troy, Idaho Cole, Hanna, Julia Matthew (Nicole) Brannan of Kasson, Minnesota Viola, Zoey, Eli Son-in-Law Calvin Norby of Strum, Wisconsin Jeff (Heather) Norby of Strum, Wisconsin Zane, Olivia, Jackson, Sadie Lisa Norby of Altoona, Wisconsin Sierra, Brianna Daughter Jill (Dean) Hestekin of Independence, Wisconsin Aaron (Cassie) Hestekin of Menomonie, Wisconsin Kaden, Evalyn, Emersyn, Madisyn, Easton, Colton David (Natalie) Hestekin of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota Seth, Riley, Bennett, Kaitlyn Jenna Hestekin of Independence, Wisconsin Daughter Linda (Eric) Hovey of Mondovi, Wisconsin Sven (Jordan) Hovey of Mondovi, Wisconsin Lily, Gage, Ryder, Kora, Bristol Bergen Hovey of Mondovi, Wisconsin He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert Peterson and his daughter Diane Peterson Norby. The family would like to extend a special thank you for the loving care and compassion given to Jim by the Mayo Clinic Health System-Oakridge and Mayo Clinic Hospice staff.
