Jeffrey ‘Jeff’ L Stendal, Pigeon Falls/Waukesha, WI – passed away May 18, 2023, at Gundersen-Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse. Born April 29, 1953, in Sparta, WI to Allen and Ellen (Slaver) Stendal, he was the second youngest of four children. He served the US Army in Korea and at Fort Knox, KY from 1972 – 1975 and reached the rank of “AJ” Sergeant. Jeff always enjoyed physical competition. While in high school, Jeff was a wrestler and did very well. During his time in the military police, he was his Battalion night stick champion and during his tour in Korea he joined a karate Dojo and became their combat champion. He was especially adept with nun chucks. Jeff loved to hunt deer as well as fix and fabricate things. He liked to cook, can, and make sausage and baloney. He would try his hand at anything. He worked for 37 years at HUSCO International as a Tool and Die Maker, Programmer, Manufacturing Engineer and Senior Production Manager. He retired in 2010 to his home and property he loved and affectionately called Woodtick Mountain. He was a member of the Hutchins-Stendahl Legion Post 191. After taking a year off to hunt and enjoy some well-deserved time off he drove semi-truck delivering fuel and carrying sand. He retired once again in 2018. Survivors include his wife: Fran (Manka); son: Chad (Tami) Stendal of O’Fallon, MO; grandchildren Autumn, Christian and Caleb also of O’Fallon, MO; mother: Ellen (Jim) Carlson of Milwaukee, WI; brother: Alan of Philadelphia, PA; sister: Debbie (Doug) Zabel of Redwood City, CA; nephews: Sean and Patrick Stendal, both of PA; and stepchildren: Jason Zellner of Genesee Depot, WI and Tammy and Ben Sanders, both of La Crosse. Jeff was preceded in death by his father: Allen; sister: Barbara; his beloved dogs: Maximus and Mindy, who will be waiting at the door for him. Give them a hug and kiss for me, babe. Per Jeff’s wishes a Celebration of Life will be held at his home from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 1, 2023. Military Honors will be presented by Hutchins-Stendahl-Legion Post 191 at 11:30 am.
