Jerome "Jerry" Beck

Jerome “Jerry” Beck, 81, of Independence, died Friday, November 30, 2018 at Pigeon Falls Health Care. Jerry was born July 31, 1937, in Arcadia, to Florian O. and Veronica F. (Pampuch) Beck. Jerry was the oldest of 18 children and lived in Independence most of his life. He served in the Army from 1959-1963. He worked at East End Bar for 35 years as a bartender. He loved to play Bingo, go to the casino and attend Catholic services. He enjoyed getting out and seeing things and taking rides around the country. Jerry enjoyed listening to orchestra music and watching old-time shows. He was always cold and preferred to wear his coat and hat indoors. He loved drinking root beer and snacking on candy and fruit cake. Jerry was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and Sura-Wiersgalla American Legion Post 186, where he served as treasurer for many years. Jerry is survived by 13 brothers and sisters, Shirley, Sandie, Robert (Judy), Steve, Gary (Sandy), Terry, Timothy (Amalia), David (Brian) and Danny (Noel) Beck, Betty (Thomas) Slaby, Judy Neitzel, Carole Lathrop and Kathy (Gary) McCoy; many nieces and nephews and extended family, Greg and Lenice Pronschinske, David and Kelly Witte. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Ehlenfeldt; three brothers, LaVerne, LeRoy and Richard Beck. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Rev. Woodrow H. Pace officiating. Burial, with military rites, will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., followed by a rosary, at Edison Funeral Home, Independence, and one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Wednesday. There will be no viewing at the church.
