Joan Rebecca Smedberg

PIGEON FALLS – Joan Rebecca Smedberg, 77, of rural Pigeon Falls, died Sunday, September 9, 2018 at her home. Joan was born July 27, 1941 in Eau Claire, to Joel and Rebecca (Enger) Twerberg. She married William Charles Smedberg, in Melrose Park, Ill., 1968. He died December 17, 2010. Joan grew up in Eleva-Strum area, attending Norseville, Strum Grade School, Bruce Valley, Jensen, Chimney Rock and graduated from Eleva-Strum Central High School in 1959. After attending vocational school in Eau Claire, she moved to Chicago, where she worked at the University of Illinois in the library. During those evenings, you could find Joan ushering at The Shubert Theatre for plays; such as, Hello Dolly, Oliver, The Sound of Music, etc. In 1972, Joan and family moved to Wisconsin. She worked for Trempealeau County, working with the WIC program for 27 years, retiring in 2007. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church of Pigeon Falls. Joan is survived by her son, Michael of Concord, N. C.; daughter Debra (fiancé Rick Kasberger) of Pigeon Falls; two grandchildren, Anthony and Nathaniel Smedberg; four brothers, Joel (Sue) of Edgar, Wis., Robert Twerberg of Arcadia, Clair (Linda) Twerberg of Janesville, Wis., Orrin Twerberg of Boise, Idaho; one sister, Barbara (Larry) McGee of Strum; three sisters-in-law, Debra Twerberg of Cleburne, Texas, Irene Smedberg Martin and Alice Smedberg; three brothers-in-law, Donald Smedberg, Karl (Wendy) Smedberg and Steven (Josie) Smedberg. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Smedberg; brother, Gordon Twerberg; father and mother-in-law, William and Christine Smedberg; brother-in-law, Rolfe Smedberg and sister-in-law, Ruth Smedberg. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 14, 2018 at Peace Lutheran Church of Pigeon Falls, with Rev. Mary Ann Bowman officiating. Burial will be in Pigeon Creek Lutheran Cemetery.
