Shirley Suchla

Shirley Suchla, 83, of Independence, died Sunday, November 22, 2020 at Lake Winona Manor, after a long battle with Alzheimers and a short battle with Covid-19. Shirley was born October 3, 1937 in Arcadia, Wis., to Louis and Theresa (Eckel) Servais. On April 28, 1962 she married Edward J. Suchla at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Arcadia. The couple farmed together until retirement. Shirley loved spending time outdoors, going for walks, and tending her flower gardens. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends and putting together puzzles during the winter months. She loved the challenge of her daily crossword puzzle, and her morning cup of coffee. Shirley loved baking pies and making all the grandkids' favorites when they would come to visit. She was a faithful member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and its rosary society. Shirley is survived by her children, Tim (Charlene) of Albuquerque, N.M., and Teri (Brian) Putz of Fountain City, Wis.; daughter-in-law, Marie Suchla of Longwood, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Michael Lisowski, Abbi Anderson, and Kayla Anderson (Brandon Thomas), Sarah and Cassandra Suchla and Erin, Briar, Brooke and Matthew Putz; two great-grandchildren, Dominic and Merredda; four sisters, Lorraine (Laverne) Sobotta of Arcadia, Virginia Smieja of Independence, Marion (Jerome) Schank of Whitehall and Sharon Secoy of Rockford, Ill.; brother, Kenneth (Carolyn) Servais of Lewes, Del.; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward in 2016; their son, Todd; sister, Phyllis Passow and brother, Gary Servais. Mass of Christian Burial (with COVID-19 guidelines) will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 30, 2020, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Independence, with Rev. George Thayilkuzhithottu officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to Mass. Mass may be viewed on SS. Peter and Paul Catholic School Facebook Live. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=724923925093837 Guidelines for funeral Masses Peter and Paul Catholic Church Independence, Wisconsin Wearing a mask is strongly encouraged (Masks are available at the church entrance if you need one) + Please enter the church with proper social distancing through the west center doors (facing Hwy 93) + After signing the register book, please go to the right side and up the aisle to offer your condolences to the family. + You may only offer your condolences from a social distance. + Family members who live in your house may sit together. + All others must be seated 6 feet apart and only in open pews. Communion + Per Diocese of La Crosse guidelines: If receiving communion requires you to pass someone in your pew not in your household, then everyone seated in the pew should come forward. If those coming forward are not receiving Communion, they can simply signal by crossing their arms or pass by without approaching the priest of deacon. + Maintain proper social distancing at the end of Mass and walking out of the church to the grave. + Exiting the church after Mass will be through the elevator addition only. + Maintain proper social distancing while at the graveside service. + At this time there will be no funeral luncheons served in the church.
